OSCA-8, an osteosarcoma cell line, originates from a left-shoulder tumor in a 1-year-old male Rottweiler. It thrives in vitro and gives rise to both orthotopic and heterotopic tumor xenografts in immunodeficient mice. Its gene expression profile aligns with the most aggressive molecular phenotype of osteosarcoma. This type of cancer emerges from primitive transformed cells of mesenchymal origin, demonstrating osteoblastic differentiation and generating malignant osteoid.

    FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY

The OSCA-8 cell line’s relevance lies in its application to address the challenges of canine osteosarcoma, characterized by high metastasis rates and a grim prognosis. It serves as a valuable tool to examine inhibitor cytotoxicity, elucidate resistance mechanisms against established drugs, and innovate novel therapeutic approaches to induce apoptosis. OSCA-8 contributes significantly to advancing the understanding and management of this aggressive disease in canines.
